Some days, it’s really difficult to go outside. Whether it’s cold, rainy, or short daylight hours, you can still get a great workout inside, even if you don’t have access to a gym. There are endless ways to get moving indoors. Some ideas to keep home workouts fresh all year are:
- Hop to it! Jump rope is a great cardiovascular exercise that works your arms, legs, and core. Jumping rope doesn’t take up a lot of space or require expensive equipment. It’s as fun as an adult, as it was years ago at recess in the schoolyard!
- Get your groove on. Enjoy yourself as you move to your favorite music. You can burn calories at any fitness level with dancing.
- Watch your step. Stairs provide great aerobic and strength training benefits. Use the stairs as part of your workout routine by climbing up and down a flight of stairs in between sets of squats, lunges, and push-ups.
- Turn it on. Workout DVD’s such as yoga, Pilates, strength training, and cardio are some of the most popular ways to workout at home. At-home exercise DVD’s (or online programs) offer a lot of convenience and the comfort of home, so there’s no reason to feel self-conscious.
- Get equipped. Buy equipment that you will use. There’s no need to spend a lot of money on fancy machines. There are numerous exercises you can perform on a balance ball or suspension training system (such as TRX).
