#1 Rule: Move

In the hospital after any surgery the first thing patients are urged to do is get up, sit up and walk. The more a person moves the body, the easier it gets. Movement helps circulation to avoid blood clots and aids the healing process. Walking promotes the flow of oxygen and assists with normal breathing. Bodily functions need to get going again and walking gets the urinary tract and the stomach moving again. Walking is a gentle natural form of exercise.

If you are healthy and able to walk around on your own, it can be easy to take for granted simple things like being able to sit up or get up by yourself. Embrace that ability and use what you have to keep your mobility and health now, instead of working later to try to get it back.
