Stay Active and Fit Far From Home

Time away from home traveling often leads to missed work-outs, convenience food, and ultimately adding some unwanted extra pounds. Travel doesn’t have to mean indulgence or skipping your daily fitness routine. If you’re on the road for business, you may have a tight schedule, so it’s important to squeeze in some time for activity. Plan ahead when choosing a place to stay. Simple planning is key to successfully keeping active when required to spend time away from home.

When choosing a hotel or motel:

  • Look for one that offers a convenient, on-site fitness facility.
  • Ask in advance about where to find local walking or hiking trails. To inspire you, bring along a pedometer to measure how far you go.
  • Pack a workout DVD for your laptop or download it to a MP3 device.
  • Spread a towel on the floor and do some stretching, crunches, yoga or even jog in place in front of the television in your room. Keep moving and remember... no one is looking!

If you are on vacation, pick from a medley of fun activities that can fill the day instead of just lounging around the pool. Plan an active vacation built around horse-back riding, skiing, bike tours, or canoeing. If you aren’t the adventurous type, consider long walks, site-seeing, nature walks, swimming or even dancing the night away. All these fun activities can burn calories and give your heart a good workout.
