Go GREEN In Your Blender

While green drinks may not look or sound very appetizing at first, they can be pretty tasty and here’s the best part: One green smoothie can give you a whole day’s worth or more of the recommended intake of vegetables.

Why add greens? The USDA recommends that we eat 1/2 cup of greens 4-6 days a week. Let’s face it, many of us do not get enough of them. This superfood is chock full of fiber, essential vitamins and minerals. Incorporating greens into your smoothies is one easy way to reach the USDA’s recommendation.

Start Small – Add a small handful of raw spinach or other neutral- tasting vegetable to your strawberry and banana smoothie. You may be surprised at how little this addition affects the actual flavor. Your eventual goal is at least 60% fruit and 40% vegetables.

Experimenting with different fruits and vegetables can be fun!

GREENS- kale celery Swiss chard broccoli spinach

FRUITS-  berries (raspberries, black berries, blueberries, strawberries) oranges or apples pineapple kiwi or mangos banana

HERBS- mint parsley basil cilantro ginger

Many people see almost immediate results upon adding green smoothies to their days. For example, weight loss or control, less fatigue, stronger immunity, and even healthier skin and hair. The green smoothie is more than a trend promoted by celebrities and fitness gurus, it’s a different kind of green movement that starts in your blender!
