Set Your Stepping Stones

Having goals, whether large or small, is part of what gives us a sense of meaning and purpose, which helps make life good. How goals are set affects the likelihood of achieving them.

Decide a direction. Sometimes it’s easier to start small. Choose something that excites you, not someone else.

Write it down. Be specific in positive terms, such as, “be smoke-free by the end of January,” rather than ”I want to quit smoking.”

Break it down. Smaller goals that lead to a bigger goal make each step easier and gives feelings of success along the way.

Take the first step. Even if it’s researching how to get started.

Keep going. Celebrate small successes and if struggling, persevere and even adjust goals as necessary.
