Small Changes, Big Impact: Little Things That Go A Long Way

Getting healthy and losing weight can seem daunting. Conflicting information, limited resources, and feeling like there is “not enough time in a day” can make it seem like these things are out of reach. However, just a few small (not time-consuming) changes to your day can make all the difference. Consider the following examples:

Cut out sugary drinks and snacks. When you choose water over soda, or frozen yogurt over ice cream, you are making better choices for your body. These small changes will make you feel better and will also help you go down a few belt loops!

Meditate. You might be thinking, “I don’t have time for that!” It takes just five minutes (15 minutes is even better) a day to change your mood and improve your focus. If you find yourself feeling stressed or anxious, take 5-15 minutes to focus on breathing. This improves both mental and physical health.

Pack your lunch. Packing healthy lunches for the week, on a Sunday night, or cooking meals that are leftover-friendly are great ways to stay healthy and save money.

Drink more water. Believe it or not, drinking water in the morning can energize you in the same (but healthier) way coffee does. Fight fatigue by keeping your body, organs, and cells nourished and hydrated. Your skin will thank you.

Have a sleep routine. Going to sleep at the same time each night results in a better night’s rest. Keeping your circadian rhythm on a stable schedule is important. In addition, studies have shown that a stable bedtime can reduce the risk of heart disease.

It’s not hard to make positive changes in your life. On a very hectic day, take ten minutes to meditate, eat a packed lunch, drink enough water, and then get to bed at a decent hour.
