Self-Reflection

We have over 50,000 thoughts per day, over half of which are negative. If we take the time and effort to focus our mind in positive directions, we give ourselves the opportunity to grow. Introspection is examining our own internal thoughts and feelings. This self-reflection can enhance our ability tounderstand ourselves, our motivations and learn more about our own values.

Taking a self-reflection break can help us stay motivated, make progress towards goals and course-correct if headed in the wrong direction.

Self-reflective questions to ask yourself:

  • What are my core values and am I living up to them?
  • Am I giving my best energy to my daily activities and loved ones?
  • What do I want for my life?
  • Am I holding on to something I need to let go of?

Self-reflection is a healthy practice that should be undertaken with care. To help stay on the right path, consider asking more “what” questions than “why” questions. “Why” questions can highlight our limitations and stir up negative emotions. “What questions help keep us curious and positive about the future.

“Self-Awareness gives you the capacity to learn from your mistakes as well as your successes.”   Lawrence Bossidy
