Higher Risks From Illness

No one wants to be at an increased risk for any illness. Those living with high risk conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiovascular disease now take a higher risk living with the threat of contracting a virus that increases mortality rates for those with underlying health conditions.

Cholesterol is a fat that your body needs to work properly. Too much bad cholesterol (LDL) can increase your chance of getting heart disease, stroke and other problems. Lifestyle changes to help lower or control cholesterol, which also lowers risk for the above mentioned high risk conditions include:

  • Eating heart healthy foods. Limiting the amount of saturated fats, trans fat and eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats.
  • Losing or managing weight. If you are overweight, losing weight can help lower your LDL (bad) cholesterol.
  • Physical activity. Everyone should be active at least 30 minutes most days.
  • Managing stress. Acting on what is in your control leads to new change and lowers stress.
