Avoiding Germs

Germs lurk in common places and wait patiently for someone to touch them. Once you get germs on your hands they stand a good chance of infecting you with a cold or something worse. There are many places that are frequently touched and can pass germs from person to person.

These can include:

  • Handrails Elevator buttons
  • Light switches
  • Menus
  • Water fountain handles
  • Shopping cart handles
  • Office coffee pots

You can protect yourself from germs by washing your hands often and using alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

Other practices to avoid germs are:

  • Cleaning your workspace, desktop, computer, keyboard and phone with a disinfectant wipe.
  • Avoid kissing as a greeting during the flu season.
  • Sanitize the office coffee pot once a week with a water-vinegar solution.
