Keep A First Aid Kit

A first aid kit is good to have handy. Keep one in your home and your car for emergencies. Make it a point to know where you the first aid kit at your workplace is kept so you can access it quickly if needed. First aid kits may be purchased at drug stores, your local Red Cross, or you can make your own. Check the kit regularly for expiration dates and to make sure that batteries for things like flashlights are still working.

Typical kits should include, medications, emergency phone numbers and:

  • dressings, cloth tape and adhesive bandages
  • antibiotic ointment and antiseptic wipe packets
  • aspirin
  • a blanket
  • instant cold compress
  • large nonlatex gloves
  • hydrocortisone ointment
  • scissors and tweezers
  • oller bandages and sterile gauze pads
  • oral thermometer (non-mercury/nonglass)
