Lucky Foods

Can the foods you eat actually bring you good luck, prosperity and health? Whether you are superstitious or not, these foods commonly eaten to start the new year can be a tasty treat whether eaten for luck or not.

Grains like rice, quinoa and barley stand for abundance.

Fruits such as pomegranates with its seeds standing for prosperity and figs a symbol of fertility. In Spain they eat 12 grapes at midnight. Each sweet grape represents a good month.

Fish is a good luck food and the Chinese word for “fish” also sounds like abundance. Serve the fish with the head and tail intact to ensure a good year from start to finish.

Greens to bring in the green! Leafy veggies including kale, collards and cabbage, it is believed, that the more you eat, the more prosperous you’ll be.

Beans symbolize coins. Black beans, lentils, or black eyed peas, plump with water when cooked and symbolize growing wealth, as well as fiber!

If no luck comes your way, at least you’ve enjoyed some good healthy foods.
