Healthy Summer BBQ and Beach Eats

Summer is the time for beach trips and backyard BBQs. It may seem difficult to pack healthy snacks for a day in front of the ocean or to bring a nourishing dish to a BBQ. However, it doesn’t have to be.

How to Pack for the Beach: It’s easy to grab a bag of chips or rely on the hot dog vendor at the beach, but it’s just as easy to pack healthy snacks. First, make sure to bring plenty of water so you stay hydrated in the heat. Opt for snacks such as veggies and hummus, nuts, fruit, and a homemade sandwich. Cheese cubes and whole-wheat crackers are also great to nibble on throughout the day.

What to Bring to a BBQ: If you’re headed to a backyard BBQ, you might be in charge of bringing a dish. Instead of chips and dip or another unhealthy snack, make your own yogurt-based dip or hummus. Opt for veggie sticks instead of chips. Offer to bring a fruit tray or a salad.

Although it may seem like grabbing an unhealthy snack or side dish is the easiest way to go, it is just as simple to whip up a few better options. A day at the beach or a BBQ does not have to mean you have to throw your wellness plan to the seagulls!
