Shake It Up: Work Out Your Brain, Too!

The satisfaction of finishing a puzzle, trying something new or just expanding your knowledge and skills can be stimulating and move you further along your journey to greater life satisfaction. Arouse your mind with new ideas, experiences or curiosity to cultivate your intellectual wellness.

Read for pleasure. Although it can sometimes feel hard to find the time to read, especially if you are reading for school or work, it is a great way to boost intellectual wellness. Use your imagination, learn about something new, and take a little time for yourself. Reading a book or article can be a kind of meditation.

Learn more about something you've always wanted to explore. Pick up a musical instrument, learn a new language, or take an art class. Creativity improves memory and emotional stability.

Play a game or do a crossword puzzle. When you finish a game or puzzle, you experience a great amount of satisfaction.

Write in a journal. Working through your day in a journal can help process conflict in a healthier way. It also helps you to identify your thoughts and feelings.

Intellectual wellness is an integral part of emotional wellbeing and can even lead to feeling physically better.

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”   Maya Angelou
