Butternut Forget The Squash

Winter squash is sweeter, denser and more firm in texture than summer squash and can make for some tasty, creative and healthy meals including, soups, casseroles, risotto, lasagna and even desserts.

Here are a few of our favorite vividly colored, flavorful and nutrient packed winter squash varieties to brighten up any meal:

Delicata Squash - When cooked, the consistency is creamy and soft like a sweet potato with a more earthy flavor.

Acorn Squash - Has a mild sweet and nutty flavor and roasting in the oven caramelizes its natural sugars. Its compact size is perfect to cut in half and stuff for recipes.

Butternut Squash - The orangey-yellow amber flesh tastes similar to sweet potato and is good for pureeing and using in soups.

Spaghetti Squash - Once cooked, a pasta alternative that can be substituted for spaghetti noodles.

Banana Squash - Considered one of the most superior, versatile types of squash, it pairs well with spices such as curry, ginger and cinnamon. Because of its large size, it’s usually sold in chunks.
